The Hunt

This is one cyanotype in the latest series that I have been working on, called "Bone Memory". I created this cyanotype using my own hands and other objects to create photograms. While the cyanotype chemicals were drying I sprinkled salt on the paper to create the crystallization effects that you can see around the edges of the paper. The paper is hand-coated by me with a foam brush in very dim lighting, the edges are not perfect, there is evidence of the brush marks.
Every day I wake up and create a new piece in the series, it acts as a grounding meditation for me as a pleasant way to start my day. I sit in the grass and don't move for 5-15 minutes, letting bugs wander over me and enjoying the breeze. "The Hunt" was a shorter exposure, about 7 minutes. This piece features a large sun catcher that I use as a filter for my video work, and the antler comes from a deer my Great Uncle hunted in New Hampshire. After the image is exposed in direct sunlight, I develop it in a bath of water and diluted vinegar, afterwards it is rinsed and fixed in cold water.
Where it's been: Made in my home studio in North York with a deer antler from New Hampshire.

Love the new artwork in my office and living room. It lifts us up everyday, acts as a conversation piece in Zoom calls, and we love the most being able to support artists in our communities as well.
